the wedding

so, 11 weeks after our engagement, we were married...

yes, i know that's a little untraditional, and to some perhaps it might even seem rushed, but we just knew that it was right, and when you know, you know, right?

also, i've never wanted a huge wedding, and so we went with the budget we had. it was the best party i've ever been to, and the most incredible day of my life - so here's a few photos of the occasion, for your enjoyment!

my gorgeous bridesmaids, who did me so proud that day - i have so much respect and admiration for each of them, and it was so lovely to be able to honour them in some way on our special day...

i walked down the aisle on a saturday morning (on time) towards the man who surpassed my dreams and imagination...

we exchanged vows (seriously beautiful, and put together by our church leader Chris - who married us too) and rings, and sealed it all with a kiss

we drove to our gorgeous reception, held in a nearby barn, where we celebrated our incredible day with a hundred and seventy of our closest friends and family - we had a hog roast with salads, followed by cakes which all made by the guests and the wedding cake which was made by my grandmother

♥ the flowers were British wildflowers put together by a company in Cornwall - one of my favourite things of the whole wedding...

after the stress of planning a wedding in such a short space of time, we were so blessed by every single one of our guests who helped in some way and the people who helped out on the day to make it all run smoothly.

we're both part of a church, and it was our church family who were so generous with their time to help with serving food and setting up the barn. our friends and family were immensely generous to us, and we'll never forget how amazing it was to have each person involved and to know that for example, each napkin had been handsewn by my maid of honour, and each table flower arrangement had been handpicked from local gardens and hedgerows and arranged by my lovely neighbours, and that my granddad spent so long choosing the right table wine for the event, and for everyone that bought their own bottles along too...

so, all in all, it was a budget wedding, but it blew everyone's expectations, including my own. i cried when i walked into the venue the night before the big day and saw all the care and attention everyone had put making it look so beautiful. people still talk about the wedding - there was no pretence, it was truly just an wonderful expression of love, in so many ways, and it was very real and down-to-earth. we even forgot a cake cutter...

my brother ended up lending us one of his big knives (which should really only be called a dagger) to cut the cake with - brilliant.

a lot of beautiful memories were created that day. and not just for us, which was lovely.

so, there's a taster! we've still got a whole load of photos to come from the photographer (my brother), but the whole day was just so magical...

anyway, Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all - i hope that 2013 is treating you well so far! i can't wait to share photos of my latest eats with you all - ironically although i've not had time to post, i've still been taking photos of everything i've eaten for the last six months... that's a lot of food to share with you all!

i hope that enjoyed seeing pictures of our october wedding - let me know if there's any more detail you'd like to see or questions you'd like answered. some people on facebook have already been asking for more details on how it's possible to organise a budget wedding in 11 weeks, and tips on quite how to do it... so any more specifics you'd like, please send them my way and i'll be happy to answer them for you :)

  4. This is my first time visiting your blog but I just had to leave a comment quickly. Looks like you had a beautiful and incredibly personal wedding - that's the way it should be! Many times while my husband and I were planning our wedding did I wish that we hadn't decided to have such a long engagement. 11 weeks is great, then you can get right to enjoying your life together as husband & wife! Congrats!

  5. Congratulations, lovely girl! Your reception and mine look remarkably similar, and like you, my wedding day was the best of my life. My husband and I are coming upon {only} 9 months of marriage this month, but already I love him more than I ever thought possible. Just wait! It only gets better :)

  7. This is so beautiful, Alissa. You are such an inspiring girl and I love how warm and 'you' everything you put on here is. Please, when you get time, can we see more of your wedding, with more detailed explanations of creative ways you planned and designed it. Also, would you consider talking more about God on here, too and how you responded to him and how he works in your life? With thanks for all we other God-chicks out there who are planning weddings, too. Woo! ;-) Beth, USA
